The Blues have been linked with a move for the 21-year-old Englishman, who has been compared to the powerful Didier Drogba.
Carroll's form means he is also in line to be called up by England boss Fabio Capello for the forthcoming friendly against France at Wembley.
But while Ancelotti is a fan of the forward, he is adamant there is plenty of room for improvement before he can be considered on a level with the likes of Drogba.
Ancelotti said in The Sun: "Carroll is a very good striker. He's young and has a chance, working hard, to arrive at the same level as Drogba.
"But they are different players. Drogba has more power and ability to score different kinds of goals, while Carroll is good in the air but has to improve."
