Platt offers Mancini defence

David Platt has jumped to the defence of under-fire Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini.
The Italian tactician is back under pressure after a third consecutive home game without a goal following their goalless draw with Birmingham City on Saturday.
Mancini surprised all in the second half when he replaced the popular Carlos Tevez with midfielder Gareth Barry with the game firmly on the line.
City have now scored a paltry 15 league goals from their 13 outings this season and some believe Mancini's tactics are too negative and defensive.
Platt insists Mancini is not adopting defensive-minded tactics and that, despite playing with only one striker, they had the likes of Adam Johnson and David Silva on show against Blues.
"Listen, I have known him long enough and he goes on with his road," said Platt.
"He's got his road, he's got his beliefs, philosophies about how you win things and win football matches.
"And when you look at what he has won in his career, it is not a bad road to be on. And he follows that.
"He's always been single-minded to follow that. It is a very easy line to say he is negative because he comes from Italy.
"Roberto is frustrated but he will follow his road and that is not 'let's get everybody behind the ball and make sure we don't lose'.
"But if you look at what we had on the pitch against Birmingham, you can't call Adam Johnson nor David Silva defensive midfield players."
