The Magpies fought back from two goals down against Wigan on Saturday to earn a 2-2 draw thanks to a last-gasp header from Fabricio Coloccini.
Gutierrez started the Latics clash at St James' Park and is expected to feature in the next game against West Ham at the weekend.
The Argentina international believes the players at the club have the heart to fight until the bitter end and feels this will be crucial as the season wears on.
"We are strong and can stay mentally strong in games," he told the Newcastle Chronicle.
"That will be important. We are all together in this fight and the players understand that.
"It doesn't matter if you are on the pitch, if you are part of the squad or the staff you have to understand that we are strong."
Gutierrez also believes Newcastle's upcoming results could shape their entire campaign, and is hoping for a positive few weeks.
"We have West Ham and then Sunderland," he added.
"We have to get it right in those games and all of the players don't need to be told how important these games are. We need to stay in the right condition.
"The next three games will shape our season. I would like to think we can get six points and stay in the Carling Cup.
"The next two weeks are not only vital to this season, but also possibly the history of the club."
