The Mexican striker scored a goal in each half to give United a 2-1 win at Stoke on Sunday, the first an instinctive back header and the second a close-range poacher's finish.
That took the 22-year-old's tally to five in 10 games since making a summer switch from Guadalajara and he is beginning to look a bargain at £7million.
Much was expected of the striker nicknamed 'Chicharito' after an impressive World Cup with Mexico, where he scored against France and Argentina.
And having so far lived up to the hype, team-mate Neville thinks Hernandez has what it takes to go on and become a United legend.
"He's a good person," he said. "He works very hard, incredibly hard.
"He's got all the attributes. He'll score lots and lots of goals for Man United."
Tuncay had drawn the hosts level in the 81st minute but five minutes later Hernandez turned in Patrice Evra's low cross to give United their first away win of the season and put them joint-second with Arsenal and Man City.
"When Tuncay scored that goal I thought 'Here we go again, we're going to draw another game'," added Neville.
"It would have been, not a disaster for us, but a real body blow for us. I think in the first half we could have had two or three goals and been further in front.
"But when Chichi scored that second everyone was massively relieved. It's a great three points for us and can hopefully kick-start our away season."
