The France international left Stade Velodrome for St James' Park over the summer in a season-long loan deal.
A bright start to his time in England bode well, with the Tyneside natives quickly taking to their new recruit.
His progress was halted in its tracks on Sunday, though, as he suffered a broken leg in a Premier League fixture against Manchester City.
Ben Arfa is now set to be out until March, placing his long-term future at Newcastle in doubt.
It has been suggested that, as he will not meet certain criteria of his loan deal, Marseille could opt to take him back to France or attempt to move him on elsewhere.
Deschamps, though, has sought to curb those rumours by insisting that Newcastle will still have first refusal on the winger next summer, should they wish to do business.
"(The injury) is a shame because he had just started to get his bearings with Newcastle. Now we'll have to wait until the end of the season to see what happens," said the French coach.
"There is an option for Newcastle to purchase him, bound to a number of matches. He won't play them, obviously, but we'll have to see what Newcastle do.
"There would be no problem for me in him returning to Marseille, but I don't think it's too much in his own plans."
Meanwhile, Magpies boss Chris Hughton has revealed that Ben Arfa has already set his sights on returning to full fitness as quickly as possible.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "He's in good spirits and his thoughts are very much on getting into his rehab and getting back playing this season.
"It's not a nice side to the game, but he's a smashing lad and he's very focused on getting back fit.
"When you have an injury like that, it makes you much more determined and his thoughts are very much on playing again this season."
