The England midfielder has not featured for the Blues in seven games since aggravating a hernia problem in August's 2-0 win against Stoke.
He then underwent surgery but suffered a groin strain after resuming training, meaning he is still not fit enough to play a part in England's clash with Montenegro next Tuesday.
But the 32-year-old has vowed to work hard in a bid to return after the international break at Aston Villa on 16th October.
Lampard told the Evening Standard: "I don't really want to set dates but I'm hoping to return after the international break.
"I've got a good couple of weeks to work with the physios. Hopefully, I won't be too far away.
"I'm a horrible person to be around when I'm not playing so it's been frustrating for me."
