The Midlanders currently occupy the third relegation place eight games into the new season after a recent poor run.
Wolves were held at home by West Ham last weekend and McCarthy insists the pressure on their clash with the Hammers is superior to that of their Chelsea test.
Things do not get any easier for Wolves with their next three Premier League outings against title contenders Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal.
"There isn't as much pressure on this game as there was in the West Ham one," said McCarthy.
"Chelsea are the best team in the league and they've carved most teams up.
"They can be pretty awesome when they get going so we've got to go there and be ready for it.
"But there is pressure on the next four games to get something.
"Who is to say though that it's set in stone that the top four sides will win all their matches?"
Chelsea 1/7, Draw 13/2, Wolves 18/1
