Ben Arfa faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a double leg break in last weekend's defeat to Manchester City.
The Frenchman, who is on a season-long loan from Marseille, has undergone surgery on the injury and is unlikely to return to action before March.
Nolan claims Ben Arfa is in good spirits despite the injury, but admits it is a blow after his team-mate's promising start to his time at St James' Park.
"I've not managed to speak to him yet but the lads have sent him texts - I texted him and I spoke to his agent who said he is in good spirits.
"Obviously, we are all gutted with what happened to him after the start he had made but that's football unfortunately. Hopefully he's back as quickly as possible and makes a full recovery."
Ben Arfa is the latest injury blow to hit Newcastle and Nolan admits losing key players makes life in the Premier League all the more difficult.
"When you start losing players through injury it gets a bit tough and you tend to look at it even more when you start to lose games.
"It's going to be a difficult season, we knew that from the start, but the lads are sticking together and I'm sure we'll be okay."
