Building an empire: Wayne Rooney has amassed a personal fortune worth an estimated ?25 million Photo: PA
Rooney is already worth an estimated £25 million and is England's sixth richest footballer, according to the latest Football Rich List compiled by FourFourTwo magazine. The list incorporated assets such as Rooney’s £4.25m home in Cheshire, a two-year sponsorship deal with Mercedes worth £1m, a £5m advance for a five-book deal and a £3.2m deal with OK! magazine for photographic rights to his wedding in 2008 to Coleen McLoughlin.
It also included Rooney's £90,000 per week salary, though the England striker is understood to have asked Manchester United for double that amount. However Rooney's estimated worth has dropped £12m since last year where he was ranked third on the FourFourTwo list.
Rooney’ s wife Coleen has also created a significant personal fortune, and appears joint 24th in the Sunday Times Britain’ s Richest Young People List published last April. But the Rooneys have a long way to go before contesting the Beckham Empire.
David Beckham headed last year's Rich List ahead of Michael Owen (£40m), Rio Ferdinand (£34m), Sol Campbell (£31m) and Ryan Giggs (£27m).
