Szczesny has progressed through the youth ranks with the Gunners since arriving in the summer of 2006 and has been involved with the senior squad for the past 18 months.
He continued his development with a spell on loan at Brentford last season before returning to try and challenge for the No.1 position.
The likes of Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski have so far remained ahead of him in the pecking order, while Vito Mannone is currently on loan at Hull City and speculation continues to suggest that Arsene Wenger will look to sign another keeper in January.
The frustration at a lack of opportunities recently prompted Szczesny to admit that he might have to consider a move elsewhere to play more regularly.
But Wenger quickly made it clear that he wanted to keep the youngster and has now moved to tie him down on a new long-term deal.
"We are delighted to secure the long-term future of Wojciech, who we regard as a very important part of our club's future," Wenger told the club's official website.
"We have all seen his huge potential, both in training and in the matches that he has played for us, so we look forward to seeing him develop further in the coming years."
Poland international Szczesny, still only 20, believes he has much more to offer and has vowed to keep working hard.
"It's a great feeling to sign a new contract with Arsenal and I'm so pleased," he admitted.
"The negotiations happened very quickly and it was easy. I'm now looking forward to continuing the hard work on the training pitch and doing my best whenever I have the opportunity to play in the Arsenal first team.
"I would just like to thank everyone that has helped me get this far, especially Liam Brady, Roy Massey and all his staff at the Hale End Academy.
"Also Neil Banfield, Steve Bould, all the backroom staff, Arsene Wenger, everyone at Brentford that helped me kick on last season and all my team-mates here at Arsenal and, of course, my family."
