Vermaelen out until New Year

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen will not be back in action until at least the New Year.
Vermaelen has been sidelined since suffering an Achilles injury while playing for Belgium in a Euro 2012 qualifier against Turkey in early September.
It was initially thought the centre-half would only be out for a week before a return against Wolves in November had to be shelved.
The 25-year-old continues to be hampered by the injury and Wenger is unable to predict a firm date for Vermaelen's return.
Wenger is determined to have the former Ajax stopper back in his plans, but the Arsenal boss revealed he will not return before the end of the year.
"Vermaelen is in a [protective] boot," said Wenger on the club's official website.
"We want him back and I hope he will be back soon, but not before January."
