Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has played down suggestions that striker Andy Carroll is ready for a full England call-up.
The 21-year-old's impressive start to the campaign has seen him notch four goals - including a hat-trick - which has heightened calls for his inclusion in Fabio Capello's squad.
But Hughton is refusing to be swayed by public opinion and insists Carroll should remain as part of the Under-21 squad for now.
"He has a bright future here," Hughton told the Sunday Express.
"But at this moment he is very much an Under-21 player and that's where I see him."
