The Italy international had been initially sidelined due to a knee injury for a period thought to be in the region of eight weeks.
However, Mancini told Sky Sports News: "He is in Italy today and his knee is okay. I think he may be ready at the end of October, in four to five weeks."
Micah Richards is expected to come into contention for the Europa League clash against Juventus on Thursday following a hamstring injury which ruled him out of the weekend win against Chelsea.
Shaun Wright-Phillips is doubtful with a knee problem as is Jerome Boateng, while Wayne Bridge and Aleksandar Kolarov remain absent for the much-anticipated game.
But the Italian is concentrating solely on the task at hand and not paying attention to fresh reports linking the club with Liverpool's Fernando Torres in the January transfer window.
"I think at this moment we must think about football," he said.
"We have plenty of games from now up until December, so we cannot think about the transfer window at this time."
