The Dutch midfielder has made an explosive start to his Spurs career and bagged a brace in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.
It was an excellent performance from the 27-year-old and last week he also caught the headlines after the UEFA Champions League clash with FC Twente, scoring, missing a penalty and receiving a red card.
Boss Redknapp says the £8million bargain is great for the club, but admits his inclusion makes it difficult to find the balance in the team.
"He's good for us," said Redknapp. "But I can't lie, it makes balancing the team difficult.
"He's never going to stay wide when you play him there. In the end he only comes inside and plays where he wants to play.
"He wants to be involved so he is never going to stay out wide.
"It causes problems because if you play two up and Rafa behind, what do you do with (Gareth) Bale? (Benoit) Assou-Ekotto has been fantastic at left back so where would you put Bale?
"If Bale plays wide left and you've got two up front and one behind, you'll have two midfield players and no-one on the right-hand side of the pitch."
But Redknapp insists he is grateful that he has Van der Vaart at his disposal: "When you have a special player you have to work at finding a way of getting the best out of him and finding a way that suits him. I wouldn't change him (Van der Vaart)."
Peter Crouch had a hand in both of the Dutchman's goals against Villa at the weekend, and Van der Vaart admits he likes playing with the big striker up front.
"It's so easy playing with someone like Crouch," he remarked. "He is so big. You just put the ball in the box and he is so strong.
"For me it's great and I'd say 50 per cent of (the credit for) the goals were his."
